The Streets of Summer

A friend from work who lives in Rapid City, Michigan passed this video along to me today. It's really got a wacky summer vibe, don't you think?

Though I'm not a huge fan of the song, I couldn't resist sharing as a way to celebrate the first day of June. It also reminds me of some fun Ok Go music videos, like the treadmills dance ("Here It Goes Again") or the one with the marching band ("This Too Shall Pass").

If you need a laugh today, I highly recommend checking 'em out :)

The video was filmed with 5,000 people and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.

The video above has a pretty fascinating story behind it: it was created as an official response to a Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a "dying city." The citizens of Grand Rapids disagreed strongly, and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy which they all feel is growing exponentially in their town. Rob Bliss, the video's director and executive producer, said he chose the song "American Pie" since, though it's about death, its message is triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope in the end

Are you watching any other fun music videos lately, yogis?
